“I was raised in the shires of England & on the California coast which instilled in me a sense of the beauty & fragility of our planet. I’m interested in nature’s ultimate dominion over the built environment & my work evokes the interaction between earth & ocean & the planet’s atmosphere infused with charged elemental energies, thermals & electromagnetic forces in our weather systems.”
Along with a career in TV film & theatre Carey Hamblett has maintained a diverse art practice & exhibited in London & LA. During over 30 return trips to California work has included urban photography, mountain artworks, short films & a feature documentary. In 2017 her solo show ‘LA Environs’ was shown in Santa Monica, exploring the urban & natural environments of Los Angeles through artworks & her ‘LA Edge’ videography & photography. In addition, extensive early art training has enabled her costume & character design & storyboarding skills to be utilised in visual conceptualising for drama & animation projects.
At the exceptionally young age of fifteen she was accepted for 4 years study in Fine Art & Theatre Design at Wimbledon School of Art during which time she completed academic studies & was also awarded a David Murray Landscape R.A. Scholarship. She went on to travel across Europe to the major sites of cultural significance which she says was the foundation upon which she developed her understanding & the tools to work in theatre design, film & visual arts.
